Choosing the right contractor.
Your ready to get your home painted but you don't know where to start.
By following a few easy steps, you can be assured that your home
improvement project will go over smoothly.
Check to see if the contractor is licensed and insured.
Not every state requires licensing but if your state does, be sure to
verify that the contractor is licensed. The simple fact that the
contractor has gone through the necessary steps to get licensed shows that
they are committed to their business.
No sensible business owner would operate without business insurance. Check
to see that they have it. Accidents happen, if they do, don't you want to
know that your painting company has the necessary coverage to pay for any
damages that they may cause.
Check References.
A contractor should be able to give you a few names of satisfied
customers in your area. Take the time to actually call a few of them and
verify. Ask if the painter treated them and their home with respect. Was
the work completed to their satisfaction and how has the painting held up
over time.
Get a Written Quote.
Your house painting contractor should provide you with a written and
itemized quote. This is in both yours and the contractors best interest.
It protects you both. It should include all necessary materials, all work
to be done and an estimated time table for the length of the work. Any
guarantees offered by the painting company should be written in the quote.
These are just a few helpful tips in hiring a house painting company.
Remember to get a few different bids for your project and keep in mind
that the lowest bid is not always the best and the highest bid doesn't
necessarily mean the highest quality. If possible get a reference from a
friend or someone you personally know.
